Exceptional hand embroidered and hand crafted vintage red clutch from India. This is a purse for a purse connoisseur!
Rich orangey red colored background is intricately hand embroidered in the opulent Zardozi tradition, using metallic threads and vibrant silk. It is rare to see the variety of stitches and the intricacy of the design any more. Only a few can do such fine work. Embroidered by master craftsmen in the historic city of Agra, home of the Taj Mahal.
Zardozi is from the Persian and means "gold thread" . It is an elaborate and opulent art of multidimensional embroidery using gold and silver threads and embellished with precious stones. Zardozi had its origins in Persia and was introduced into India by the ruling Mughals in the early 16th century. It was used mainly to adorn the robes of the royal families. The city of Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, was the seat of the Mughal Empire and it remains a center for traditional handicrafts that had flourished under the Mughal patronage. Stunning and unique evening bag!
The peacock, symbol of royalty, elegance and beauty, is the national bird of India. Amazing detail and precision - just look at the eye of the peacocks, their tails, their feet! Their graceful position.
