The birds and tree branches are realistically rendered in 3D by a labor intensive technique of embroidering over layers and layers of underlying floss. Very few embroiderers are accomplished in this specialized technique.
  
  These imaginary birds exist only in the artist's imagination. Note the gorgeous and accurate plumage of the birds. Silk perfectly captures the soft sheen of bird feathers.   Zardozi means "gold thread" . It is an elaborate multidimensional embroidery art form using gold and silver threads and precious and semi precious stones to create an opulent 3D effect. Zardozi was introduced into India in the early 16th century and was used mainly to adorn the robes and household items of the royal families. It has been adapted to modern times by the addition of silk.
